Trade through digital channels is booming. And while these highly-accessible platforms offer plenty of commercial opportunities, they also create unique VAT challenges for your business. Feeling overwhelmed by the complexity? Our experts can streamline your e-commerce VAT operations and get you on the right track—efficiently and effectively.
Since July 2022, the EU has completely transformed location-based rules for e-commerce, requiring businesses to pay VAT in the ‘member state of consumption.’ Fortunately, to reduce the administrative burden of this obligation, they simultaneously introduced the One Stop Shop (OSS) scheme
This allows e-commerce businesses to declare all B2C services with specific location rules and all EU distance sales in a single OSS return filed in your business’s home country. For imports from outside the EU, the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS) scheme applies. The major advantage? You no longer need a VAT number in every individual member state. Plus: the experts at PIA Advisory make sure your OSS and IOSS returns meet all requirements in every country.
Many online retailers use the so-called dropshipping model, where the company itself stocks no inventory but offers products from a supplier who ships the goods directly to the end customer. While dropshipping dramatically simplifies operations, on a VAT level you still have quite a few obligations to meet in the country where the end customer is located. Want to make sure dropshipping is the simplest and most cost-effective way to run your online shop? Our experts are happy to assess your situation and identify the best approach.
