On March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day — a day when we at PIA Group proudly shine a light on our female colleagues. Today, we introduce Annick Jacobs, who in just seven years has advanced to become final reviewer and office manager at PIA office Van Looy Ekeren. Annick shares how perseverance, self-reflection, and ambition have not only shaped her career but also transformed her view on leadership and work ethic.
Standing still is moving backward
Annick began her journey at Van Looy Ekeren in April 2017. Within two years, she became a file manager, and by 2024, she was ready to take on the challenge of final reviewer and office manager. “It was a fast-paced but incredibly educational growth path. If you’re not learning, you’re moving backward. So I chose to take it all in — even when it got tough,” Annick shares.
Growing — and hitting pause
“Learning is essential to my growth,” Annick says. “That’s why I decided to join the Wolfpack program within PIA Group.” The program gave her the chance to hit pause and reflect on her personal and professional development. “In the daily rush, you just don’t make time for that. Wolfpack gave me the space to strengthen my leadership skills and fine-tune my approach as a manager.”
Aim for a strong mix of perspectives
Annick sees the accountancy sector increasingly as a balanced mix of men and women. “There might still be slightly more men, but that doesn’t really matter. We definitely don’t let that hold us back,” she laughs. She believes it’s a misconception that women have a harder time in the sector. “What really matters is the support you have at home. That goes for everyone, whether you’re a man or a woman. A strong team thrives on a mix of perspectives — everyone benefits from that.”
You create your own happiness
To Annick, success is simple: being happy. “For some people, that means working less. For me, it’s finding the perfect balance between my career and my family. Sure, it’s hectic at times, but when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work.” Annick finds peace in the little things: time with her daughters, zen moments, and quality time with friends. Her ultimate message: “Make your own decisions and don’t let others make them for you. You are the creator of your own happiness.”
Keep your goals in sight
Looking ahead, Annick has clear ambitions: “I want to keep learning, both as a final reviewer and office manager, and on a personal level too. My goal is not just to excel in my current role, but to help my team and office grow.” Her ultimate ambition? An office where both clients and employees are happy. “My mission is accomplished when we have a strong team that works well together and satisfied clients. That’s what gives me energy.”
